SPIRITUALITY

Students receive an in-depth education on Balinesespirituality, a wholly unique religious tradition practiced exclusively on this small island the size of Delaware. Our inquiry into the ubiquitous spiritual beliefs and daily rituals helps students reflect on their own spiritual path and develop deep respect for that of others.

Through spending time in rural environments and immersing ourselves in agricultural communities, students learn about the influences of ancient animism in Balinesespirituality, and how these beliefs influence relationship to earth, resource management and agricultural practices

Students develop an understanding of the long and complicated history of the Balinese political and spiritual identity, coming to realize the strength of Balinese spiritual tradition through its persistance in the face of multiple waves of occupation, colonization, and globalization.
