Program Highlights

Develop your Skiing

Based on the high alpine environment of the Western Slope of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, students on this program will be placed in a tailored skier development experience alongside their new friends within the program (whether entry-level or proficient!). Students receive a temporary mountain pass to Breckenridge and advance their ski skills in the morning through lessons with expert ski instructors, building their confidence level and comfort with the sport, with the magnificent Rockies as the backdrop to it all.

Respite in the Rockies

Students will spend eight days awaking each morning to the white-blanketed mountains and the robin’s-egg blue sky characteristic of Colorado winter. Through conversations and activities focused on wellness, introspection, and the cultivation of truly restful moments in life, students feel at week’s end prepared and excited to return to their school communities.

Life in a Mountain Town

Staying in accommodations near the mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado, students come to build an understanding of life in a mountain town and the unique culture that entails. What is mountain life, and how does the context of a place drive its culture? Through different yet familiar experiences exploring the town, students dive into these questions.

Itinerary

The below itinerary provides one projection of the daily schedule. Changes may be made to improve the program quality, based on the logistical and educational needs of enrolled students.

Early arrivals / Late departures can be arranged to meet the needs of individual students.

Day One - November 23, 2019

Students take their flights into the airport in Denver, Colorado. They are met by their Envoys program leaders and head into the city of Denver for the first evening of the program. Students gather for a program welcome workshop and then dinner together on the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall.

Day Two - November 24, 2019

After breakfast at the hotel, we gather our things again to head up from the city of Denver into the high alpine Rocky Mountains. As we begin to climb into the foothills, we stop at Red Rocks National Amphitheater to take in the view and enjoy some fresh air. From there, we continue on from the foothills into the Rocky Mountains on a 1.5 hour drive. We arrive in Breckenridge for lunch and spend some time stretching our legs and walking around the town. The afternoon is spent doing different student choice activities.

Day Three - November 25, 2019

It’s our first day on the ski mountain! We take the free shuttle to the ski mountain for our first morning of ski lessons. Ski experts work with students on expertly fitting them for skis and boots for the week. From there, we head out to meet our ski coaches for our four-hour lesson. Certified advanced instructors work with students on learning the basics of skiing, including health and safety and norms on the mountains. Students with previous ski experience will be placed in a ski lesson that matches their skill level.

In the afternoon, everyone gets comfortable again and out of their ski clothes at the house before heading out to the movie theatre to enjoy a movie.

Days Four & Five - November 26-27, 2019

Days four and five are spent on the ski mountain, further building our familiarity with the sport and advancing our comfort. All skiing is done in a friendly, challenge-by-choice environment. We spend our mornings on the mountain before having lunch in town and filling the afternoon with local explorations and activities.

Day Six - November 28, 2019

It is Thanksgiving! In the morning, we all make a menu together where each student contributes a dish related to their family’s cultural heritage tradition. We shop for the ingredients and work together throughout the day to cook a meal and enjoy it together. We head out to watch the sunset and stretch our legs before preparing for our final day of skiing.

Day Seven - November 29, 2019

Day seven is our final day of skiing for the program. Students further advance their skills and comfort level, and enjoy a final day on the mountain, taking in all of the beautiful views and making memories. In the afternoon, we celebrate our newfound ski skills by going snowtubing on the mountain—a truly joyful activity!

Day Eight - November 30, 2019

We pack up our things in the morning and head back to Denver for our final afternoon of the program. We check back in to our original program hotel before heading out to visit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. From there, we enjoy a program closing dinner and celebration.

Day Nine - December 1, 2019

We close the program in the morning and transfer students to the airport for their flights back home to school.
